UFO – YES OR NO?
Wycliffe Well is a roadhouse and holiday park near Wauchope in Australia’s Northern Territory. The area is said to be one of the biggest hotspots for UFO activity in the entire continent. There have been many reported sightings in recent decades by locals and visitors alike, and this has made the relatively remote location surprisingly popular among UFO enthusiasts and the occasional tourist.
Why do UFOs congregate in Wycliffe Well? Nobody knows for sure. Some say the place lies at an intersection of two major LEY lines, which attract alien vessels and cause them to pass the place quite often. Others maintain the mysterious sightings are actually secret experiments by the Pine Gap US military base, which, according to some theories, is Australia’s answer to Area 51. Others still say the UFOs, if stories of them are true at all, are merely the desert sun’s reflection on birds and other tricks of light.
Whatever the truth may be, the roadhouse—stuffed to the brim with alien kitsch and UFO memorabilia—certainly benefits from the rumours.

I know the chap who for many years owned the Wycliffe Wells R/H we were in the Navy & we did business together for many years while he had the R/H (built originally as a stop over camp for the American army conveys taking equipment to arm Darwin in the 2ndWW, they dug the well for crops to be grown for the troops coming thru. hence the swimming pool, still in use there) the owner was desperate for traffic to stop & spend some money @ his R/H. Being the entrepreneur that he was he hit onto purchasing the space ship & space related items for sale after the World Exposition held in Brisbane Qld.in 1988 & proceeded to get as much publicite as he could via media etc. no mean feat pre internet, however come the arrival of the back-packer era he was home free, organising the coaches to stop over, & there was the attraction of the near by “Devils Marbles” which of course attracted UFOs & “oh! no UFOs tonight! ,should have been here last night” .But hey, when you are in the middle of Australia & the night sky is so special for people from Europe etc. what the heck. The UFOs were the first of many activities he produced @ the Wells & they were all to enhance the business which they certainly did, good for him, a true raconteur.
