YOU can take the boy out of Queensland, but you can’t take Queensland out of the boy.
Many years ago an army mate was facing the prospect of spending Christmas in Canberra.
It was a long way from his hometown in Bowen, Far North Queensland, but the prospect of several days’ road travel with a new baby was out of the question.
Never mind, Christmas is mango season in the north and he was determined if the family couldn’t travel north, some mangoes could definitely survive a journey south.
Bowen, as anyone knows, is home to the world’s best, juiciest, plumpest mangoes. The blossoming of the first mango buds is a sure sign stifling heat and summer storms are on their way.
