Direct Fire Support Weapons (DFSW) Course

Infantry soldiers from across the Australian Army conducted the Officer and Non-Commissioned Officers Direct Fire Support Weapons (DFSW) Course over 4 weeks in May 2022 at the School of Infantry in Singleton. The aim of the course was to train personnel in the skills, knowledge and attitude that are required of commanders in the DFSW platoon and DFSW in-service weapons. Infantry battalions DFSW platoons are employed to suppress, neutralise or destroy enemy dismounts, vehicles or structures. This is achieved through both anti-armour weapons and the use of machine guns in both direct and indirect roles. Weapons used by DFSW include the 84mm M4 Carl Gustav, Javelin FGM-148, MAG 58 Extended Range Machine Gun, 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun and Mk47 Lightweight Automatic Grenade Launcher.
